COE Committees

 

EDUCATOR PREPARATION ADVISORY COUNCIL (EPAC):

The committee examines the requirements necessary for programs completion and makes changes based upon current practices, state and national requirements, and trends and needs in the P-12 setting.

Chaired by the Dean of the College of Education

 

DIVERSITY COMMITTEE:

The committee explores opportunities that exist to ensure that our candidates are being exposed to diverse settings and situations.  Additionally, this committee seeks to ensure that candidates have the appropriate dispositions to instruct students from diverse backgrounds.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE:

The committee develops and revises best practices for early childhood education.  Works in conjunction with the Director of Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center (ZSECC) for accreditation, fundraising, grant writing and all other activities essential for strengthening the early childhood programs and center.

DISTANCE EDUCATION, ONLINE PROGRAMS AND DUAL ENROLLMENT/TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE:

The committee develops distance education activities, on-line and hybrid courses and others related to best practices for utilizing technology during instruction.

Chaired by Dr. Kenley Obas

 

LEADERSHIP TEAM:

The committee examines and responds to faculty, staff and administrative needs of the COE.

Chaired by the Dean of the College of Education

 

ADMISSION TO EPP COMMITTEE:

The committee is made up of members from the COE, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS), College of Science, Mathematics and Technology (CSMT), College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), University College (UC), School of Graduate Studies (SOGS), Records and Registration and Admissions.  Duties of this committee include: planning, organizing, and facilitating all admission to the Educator Preparation Program activities.

COURTESY COMMITTEE:

The committee shall be responsible for establishing protocol for ensuring that there is consistency in offering courtesies to every member of the College of Education.

Chaired by Mrs. Juanita Caffey

 

STAFF ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The committee designs and recommends activities related to professional development, customer service and enhancement of COE morale, health and welfare.

Chaired by Mrs. Amy Miller

 

FACULTY QUALIFICATIONS, PERFORMANCE, & DEVELOPMENT:

The committee reviews faculty qualifications and designs and recommends activities related to professional development, customer service, research, grant writing and enhancement of the COE morale, health, and welfare.

Chaired by Dr. William Person

 

CURRICULUM COMMITTEE:

The committee examines curricular changes that have been proposed for programs in the College of Education.  When these changes are suggested, approval must be provided by this body prior to the programs being sent to further approval.

Chaired by Dr. Lemanski Walker

 

STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE:

The committee leads and monitors student activities and professional development.  This committee is responsible for ensuring that students are aware of all policies and procedures governing the COE.  Additionally, this committee serves to keep students informed of deadlines, for submission of applications (i.e. admission to TEP, internship, graduation and certification).  This committee is also charged with designing activities essential to increasing membership in student organizations and rallying student support for COE programs.

POLICY AND PROCEDURES COMMITTEE:

The committee is charged with the responsibility of developing appropriate policies and procedures for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education.

Chaired by Dr. LaWanda Edwards

 

FACULTY AND STUDENT GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE:

The committee will review faculty and student grievances that reach the dean’s desk after all grievance procedures are exhausted and make recommendations.   

Chaired by Dr. Sonja Harrington-Weston

 

TENURE AND PROMOTION COMMITTEE:

The committee is composed of senior faculty members.  The committee serves to review the dossiers of all individuals who are seeking promotion.  Additionally, under special circumstances the committee may be asked by the Dean to review the dossiers of individuals seeking tenure.

EDUCATOR PREPARATION SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE:

The scholarship committee will review and evaluate all submitted applications based upon established criteria and guidelines.  After the review process the committee will forward an award recommendation list to the Dean’s office.

TEACHER PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT (edTPA) COMMITTEE:

The committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of edTPA.

Chaired by Mrs. Pearla Griffin

 

 CAEP COMMITTEE LIST

Each committee should meet at least once a month (submit dates and times of meetings).  There is an administrative assistant or secretary in each of the committees.  They will take minutes for their standard meetings and submit them to their chair no later than 2 weeks after the meeting.  Please place your minutes on the attached template.  The COE is requesting at least 1 stakeholder on each committee (superintendent, principal, teacher, counselor, state department of education employee, etc.)

CAEP STANDARD 1: CONTENT AND PEDAGOGICAL KNOWLEDGE - The provider ensures that candidates develop a deep understanding of the critical concepts and principles of their discipline and, by completion, are able to use discipline-specific practices flexible to advance the learning of all students toward attainment of college-and career- readiness standards.

CAEP STANDARD 2: CLINICAL PARTNERSHIPS AND PRACTICE - The provider ensures that effective partnerships and high-quality clinical practice are central to preparation so that candidates develop the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions necessary to demonstrate positive impact on all P-12 students’ learning and development.

CAEP STANDARD 3: CANDIDATE QUALITY, RECRUITMENT, and AND SELECTIVITY - The provider demonstrates that the quality of candidates is a continuing and purposeful part of its responsibility from recruitment, at admission, through the progression of courses and clinical experiences, and to decisions that completers are prepared to teach effectively and are recommended for certification.  The provider demonstrates that development of candidate quality is the goal of educator preparation in all phases of the program.

CAEP STANDARD 4: PROGRAM IMPACT - The provider demonstrates the impact of its completers on P-12 student learning and development, classroom instruction, and schools, and the satisfaction of its completers with the relevance and effectiveness of their preparation.

CAEP STANDARD 5: PROVIDE QUALITY, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, AND CAPACITY – The provider maintains a quality assurance system comprised of valid data from multiple measures, including evidence of candidates’ and completers’ positive impact on P-12 student learning and development.  The provider supports continuous improvement that is sustained and evidence-based, and that evaluates the effectiveness of it completers.  The provider uses the results of inquiry and data collection to establish priorities, enhance program elements and capacity, and test innovations to improve completers’ impact on P-12 student learning and development.
