Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Advisory Board

Dr. Quenton Bonds- Research Electronics Engineer, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He has already been working with HR and senior management to establish a pipeline for ASU students to do internships and engage in cooperative learning experiences at Goddard. ASU has had students participate in internships in the past at Goddard (Dr. Bonds in particular), but we endeavor to make this more consistent.

Dr. Jimmy Manning- Professor at Strayer University, School of Information Systems. His duties include curriculum design for online as well as traditional courses and he develops and teaches capstone courses. Dr. Manning is a former Network Engineer with DOD and EDS, and he has worked as a Project Engineer with IBM. He wishes to offer his expertise from various arenas, i.e. industry, government, and higher education to help students and the University alike however he can.

Dr. Florence Holland- Special Assistant to the Associate Provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, Auburn University. She coordinates the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students (undergraduate and graduate) as well as faculty and staff. Additionally, she directs and leads new initiatives and partnerships with internal and external constituents. Dr. Holland believes that she can assist with identifying partnerships not only with Auburn University, but other institutions as well and strengthen existing partnerships with ASU and her office.

Mr. Ashante Jordan- Aerospace Engineer, NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, California. His specialization is in Computational Fluid Dynamics to predict Aero/Structural Loads Technology Development and Design. He would like to assist with possible grant initiatives to establish STEM partnerships and other advantageous educational opportunities.

Mr. Anothony Richardson- Systems Administrator, SAIC at Gunter Air force Base. He works with UNIX and WINDOWS servers supporting Air Force and DOD applications. Mr. Richardson would like to offer insight regarding career development and help to establish a pipeline for internship and or jobs at military and industrial installations in Montgomery.

Dr. Marcus Vandiver- Education Specialist, Alabama Department of Education. He serves as the coordinator of the school improvement grant. This grant offers sub-grants to local education agencies. He has been employed with the state for 7 years. He obtained a degree in chemistry from ASU, then he switched his focus to math education and finally he received his doctorate in education leadership. Dr. Vandiver stands to offer valuable insight to students who are on the fence regarding their future because of his knowledge of changing career tracks while still moving forward. He can also assist with online courses and possible grant initiatives.

Tracie Smith- Information Technology Specialist, US Department of Defense at Gunter Air Force Base. She assists and provides technical expertise for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Air Force-wide Information Technology hardware/software and services requirements. In addition to this, she assists in reviewing requirements and coordinating implementation actions to manage IT hardware, software/services. Ms. Smith envisions making an impact as an advisory board member by providing a fresh, informed perspective in the shaping of current and new programs ideas and business models related to ASU's Department of Mathematics and Computer science. She would like to provide her IT expertise related to current and emerging IT trends to help prepare current student for a successful career. She looks forward to the opportunity to serve as a mentor/role model to the current students and engage the community/industry to supporting any programs related to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Mr. Caver has been quite successful in the information technology market. He has shown that he is serious about making a difference for students by offering his expertise to assist them with job readiness seminars and skills enhancement programs.

Marcus Jones- Manager, CTR DISA
Mr. Jones is an ASU graduate and he has a vested interest in the helping to ensure that our graduates are ready for the world upon graduation.


We envision that the Advisor Board members listed above will assist the department by providing the following:

  • Establish internship opportunities
  • Establish job shadowing opportunities
  • Assist with curriculum development
  • Provide scholarship opportunities
  • Assist with grant initiatives
