ASU Industrial Hemp & Entomology Research Lab

Welcome to the Alabama State University Industrial Hemp & Entomology Research Lab! Hemp is an agricultural commodity that growers in  Alabama and neighboring states are exploring for production for the first time as research and production of this crop was prohibited for many years. The passage of the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 by congress however, has legalized research on this commodity.

In June 2019, this research program was approved for incorporation into ASU's Title III activities. Since then, our team has conducted research on insect pests of the specialty crop, as well as working with other Alabama Hemp Growers to determine the best management practices of growing this crop. Opportunities are provided for students interested in the experiential and hands on learning activities, as well as involvement in all aspects of the industrial hemp research program at ASU.
