mechanical Engineering

Become a mechanical engineer and help design solutions that will transform our world.  It could be the most rewarding decision you will ever make.

Our program aims to produce graduates who can solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. Mechanical engineering is among the most diverse of the engineering fields, and it affects almost all aspects of our lives and embraces many areas of specialization. From the buildings in which you live and work, to the cars you drive daily mechanical engineering even plays a role in producing the food you eat and the tools you use to cook it.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering will be prepared to pursue careers in industry, government, or academia.  Graduates will have sound knowledge in mechanics of solids and fluids, thermodynamics and heat transfer, the science of materials, and the principles and techniques of mechanical engineering design, and possess excellent professional skills.  Additional outcomes include:

  • an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs
  • an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  • an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments
  • an ability to function effectively on a team
  • an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed

Program Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are expected to have a strong high school background in science and math, and have a competitive GPA. Current ASU students desiring to transfer into the program must have completed the core curriculum requirements.
