About Us

 

Overview

The Central Alabama Regional Education Inservice Center is one of the 11 educational units in the state of Alabama housed at major universities. The major purpose of the unit at Alabama State University is to provide professional development and professional learning activities for public school professionals in region 8 of the state. Professional development is key to helping educators engage children in K-12 schools with best practices which impact student learning and educational outcomes. Therefore, the mission of this unit is to seek the best consultants and trainers to assist the director with providing activities which help educators to be lifelong learners and stay abreast of theories, pedagogy and best practices.   The Central Alabama Regional Education Inservice Center works in partnership with the College of Education, SDE and community agencies to prepare students to be college and career ready in the 21st Century schools.  This educational unit works under the guidance and auspices of a Governing Board which consist of representatives from each district served in the region. The board members are teachers, principals, superintendents, and Central Office district employees.  

 

Vision

The vision of the Inservice Center is to provide services which help professional educators become life-long learners in their respective fields. This professional learning of region 8 educators translates into successful student learning outcomes for students in K-12 schools. 

 

Goals and Objectives

  • Provide professional learning activities for educators that relate to the various academic standards (Alabama Professional Teaching Standards, National Learning Forward Teaching Standards, and the National Boards Professional Teaching Standards and others).
  • Provide professional learning activities for educators that support data-driven outcomes in the classrooms related to instruction.
  • Provide professional learning activities that is supported by the research and represent best practices that are always changing. 
  • Professional learning that encourages schools to become Professional Learning Communities that work to promote the best learning outcomes for its students.
