SEAT TIME
It is important to note that there is more to administering an exam than just letting the Test Candidate go through the timed portion of the certification exam. Additional time will be required to administer an exam from start to finish with input from both the Proctor/Teacher as well as the Test Candidate. This administrative time combined with the allotted exam time is known as the “Seat Time”. These additional actions may include tasks and logistics such as classroom planning, launching the software, signing in, potentially downloading updates to the software and/or exam content, loading times, reading and agreeing to terms/conditions, completing demographics, reviewing the tutorial, sending in comments, and uploading/viewing the exam results.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
The SAT is a computer-based test that is available to middle and high school students who are preparing to begin college.
How the SAT Is Structured
The SAT is composed of two sections: (1) the Reading and Writing section, and (2) the Math section. You have 64 minutes to complete the Reading and Writing section and 70 minutes to complete the Math section for a total of 2 hours and 14 minutes.
Each section is divided into 2 equal length modules, and there is a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section. The first module of each section contains a broad mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Based on how you perform on the first module, the second module of questions will either be more difficult or less difficult.
The following table shows how much time you get for each section and the number of questions for each section:
Component |
Time Allotted (minutes) |
Number of Questions/Tasks |
Reading and Writing |
64 (two 32-minute modules) |
54 |
Math |
70 (two 35-minute modules) |
44 |
Total |
134 |
98 |
Most of the questions are multiple choice, though some of the math questions ask you to enter the answer rather than select it
Arrive on time on test day.
Be sure to check your admission ticket for your arrival time and the address of your test center. You can't be admitted once testing has started. If you're late or absent on test day, you'll need to register again, and the standard testing fees will apply.

The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL)
TOCFL is a set of standardized language proficiency tests developed for non-native speakers of Chinese. CEFR organizes language proficiency in three bands and six levels. To meet the actual Chinese teaching situations overseas, however, the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP) developed a preliminary band: the Band Novice, which means the overall organization of four bands and eight levels. Four bands include: Band Novice, Band A, Band B, and Band C. Each band is further divided into two levels making a total of eight levels: Novice 1, Novice 2, and Level 1 to Level 6.
Anyone who wants to know their Chinese proficiency level, and anyone who wants to study, work, or do business in Chinese-speaking countries or contexts is welcome to register for the test. The table below sets out the indicative number of course hours spent learning Chinese, and the size of the vocabulary base of words (ci) learnt appropriate for each test level.
For more information visit here.
TOCFL test-takers will receive a certificate for each test that they register for and pass.
The TOCFL certificate can serve as evidence of Chinese proficiency for:
- Applying for a Taiwan Scholarship.
- International students applying for academic programs at colleges and universities in Taiwan.
- Overseas Chinese Students applying for university admission in Taiwan through the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students (UECOCS).
- Employment applications which require proof of Chinese language proficiency.
- Obtaining bonus points under the new appraisal system for Overseas Chinese and international students who want to remain in Taiwan to work.
