The Hornet Tribune

The Hornet Tribune is the oldest historically black college and university newspaper in the nation. At The Hornet Tribune, students cultivate sources, plan coverage and report on topics important to Alabama State University and the Metro-Montgomery Alabama. Those with an eye for design lay out pages and student photographers look for great shots to provide visual content for the weekly paper. There is even a student advertising staff. It has won more than 20 regional awards and at least four national awards. To cut cost at a time when printing is extremely expensive, The Hornet Tribune is sent to every student, faculty, staff and selected alumni by email. The Hornet Tribune has tryouts for open positions once each year.

The Equinox

The Equinox is Alabama State University’s literary and arts magazine. It serves as a creative outlet that gives a voice to the artists, writers, photographers and designers of Alabama State University. The Equinox’s goal is that this publication will accurately represent the diverse talents, abilities, and perspectives of the Metro-Montgomery community. The Equinox is published twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Look for The Equinox at the end of each semester.

HORNET Yearbook

The HORNET Yearbook is managed by a student staff directed by the yearbook editor. The book is published once a year. The staff works to design and write the content, meeting regular deadlines with the publisher over the course of several months. The HORNET Yearbook published its 50 edition in 2014 and is a perennial powerhouse that has won national awards for design, content, reporting, photograph, writing, and overall quality.

ENVISAGE

ENVISAGE magazine is Alabama State University’s student-produced publication that caters to all students who love fashion, various lifestyles, sports, social issues. The magazine is published once each academic year at the end of April. The magazine and the ENVISAGE website showcase students' in-depth reporting, photography, graphic design work and artwork.

Student Media Advertising provides local and national businesses the only means to effectively reach the Alabama State University campus community with their sales message. The student staff sells, creates and services a wide variety of products including newspaper, radio, magazine, newsletter, web, digital and transit advertising.
