Golden Society Honors Members with Summer Picnic
By Hazel Scott/ASUAlabama State University Golden Class Alumni from all programs gathered at Alabama State University’s Alumni House to spend a beautiful summer afternoon at the first-ever Golden Society Picnic.
“The picnic is our way of honoring our Golden Society members’ unwavering support of the University,” said Cromwell Handy, Director of Alumni Relations.
The Golden Graduates (alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago), were treated in VIP style with good food and music.
Handy described the Golden Society as being composed of alumni who actively and financially participated in their respective 50th Golden Class Reunions.
“This philanthropic annual giving program is to serve as a means to keep these alumni engaged, excited and energized following their Golden Class Reunion Experience,” said Handy.
Thus far, there have been 160-plus Golden Class alumni to be inducted, with the Golden Class of 1973 being the first followed by the Golden Class of 1974.
Handy noted, that collectively, these classes have donated more than $400,000 to ASU over the last two years.
“Golden Class members who celebrated their Golden Class Reunion before 2023 may become members of the Golden Society by donating $150 annually,” Handy added.
Golden Society perks include a Certificate of Recognition and special lapel pin, discounts to ASU events/programs when available, special seating at ASU events/programs when available, special “Golden Society” apparel, and discounts at the ASU bookstore.
