What is accreditation?

Accreditation is a practice that ensures program quality through peer evaluation of educational programs. Programs that participate in specialized accreditation programs agree to uphold the standards set by the profession.

The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the national music accrediting agency in the United States. As a NASM member institution, the Department of Music agrees to comply with national professional standards in music set forth by the association. Through its membership in NASM, the program agrees to undergo regular and systematic peer review to demonstrate evidence of meeting the standards.

The department also participates in the accreditation of ASU’s College of Education through the organization the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE).
