Spring 2024 In-Person Commencement
Greetings:
Due to the increased risk of inclement weather on Friday, May 3, 2024, the 309th Commencement Convocation will be moved to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The times for the ceremonies will remain unchanged.
Candidates for graduation should enter the Acadome from South University Drive (the entrance located just across from the Shuttlesworth Dining Hall). We will follow the same procedures as previously stated to sign individuals in and hand out name cards (Picture ID required). Volunteers and Student Marshals will be on hand to direct candidates after they have checked in.
There will be two session:

Rehearsal
Rehearsal for Spring Commencement Convocation will be held at 5 p.m. in the Acadome on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 5 p.m.
President’s Reception
The President’s Reception will immediately following the rehearsal in the Acadome Concourse. We encourage all candidates for graduation and two guests to attend and celebrate this moment.
Diplomas
After the conclusion of the Commencement Convocation, graduates should report to the 2nd floor of the Hardy Student Center. Diploma pick-up tables will be located directly across from the ASU Cashier window.
You are to present your picture ID card (driver’s license or ASU ID card) to the Office of Records and Registration personnel at the table who will verify your name on their graduation clearance list. Once cleared, you will be given an envelope containing your diploma.
Please Note: The Diploma Station will open IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the Commencement recessional. Also, the station will only be open for ONE HOUR after the recessional.
Regalia
For those who did not preorder and have their regalia shipped to their home, this is your opportunity to get regalia for the Spring 2024 Commencement. Regalia will be available from the ASU Bookstore on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, April 30 - Thursday, May 2, 2024 (10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
- Friday, May 3, 2024 (7 a.m. -1 p.m.)
To pick up regalia, you must have submitted a graduation application for Spring 2024, paid the graduation application fee, and have been cleared to graduate, and have a valid picture ID.
Tickets
Tickets will not be necessary for the Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony.

Honors Hoods
Candidates for baccalaureate degrees who maintain high scholarship through four years at the University are graduated with academic distinction. Graduation with academic distinction is based on the quality point average of 3.00 or higher out of a possible 4.00. Alabama State University honors students who graduate within this grade point range with the following designations:
Summa Cum Laude 3.75-4.00
Magna Cum Laude 3.50-3.74
Cum Laude 3.00-3.49
Honors hoods will be available from the ASU Bookstore at the following times:
- Tuesday, April 30 - Thursday, May 2, 2024 (10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
- Friday, May 3, 2024 (7 a.m. -1 p.m.)
To pick up honors hoods, you must have submitted a graduation application for Spring 2024, have a valid picture ID, and be an honors student.
Tickets
Tickets will not be necessary for the Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony.
