Dr. Michael Westmoreland

Dr. Michael Westmoreland serves as Associate Professor of Woodwinds for the Department of Music at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he teaches applied flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon, in addition to cooridinating the weekly music majors performance seminar class.

Dr. Westmoreland received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Dana School of Music at  Youngstown University, his Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Kent State University, studied wind conducting at the University of Calgary, and received his Doctrate in Clarinet Performance from the University of Memphis. Prior to his appointment at Alabama State University, Dr. Westmoreland served as Assistant Professor of Music at Bethune-Cookman University, taught at Southwest Tennessee Community College, taught in the Memphis and Shelby County School Systems, and in the Warren City (Ohio) School System.

Dr. Westmoreland has performed with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Corinth Symphony Orchestra, First Coast Wind Symphony, Peacock Wind Ensemble, and the Sanctuary Orchestra at Temple of Deliverance Church of God Christ. In addition, he has performed at Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, Tennessee, and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, Alabama, as a woodwind doubler, and has been a featured soloist at the Magic City Clarinet Festival in Montevallo, Alabama.
