The Office of Career Services at Alabama State University is holding a Career Fair (Fair) on Thursday (March 27) from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The event will be held at ASU’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome and is presented in partnership with Alabama Power Company.
Dr. Sabrina C. Simmons, assistant vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management/Student Development and Engagement, will host the Career Fair.
"In alignment with ASU President Ross's dedication to ‘CommUniversity,’ the Fair is free of cost and is open to the public, ensuring that local residents benefit from the same access to employment resources and professional networking opportunities as does ASU's student body and alumni," Simmons stated. "This is a great opportunity for our students and the public to meet with recruiters offering job opportunities and internships, and to interact with officials from the Alabama Power Company who are partnering with us to make this great event happen. We are encouraging all who are interested to commit just 30 minutes of their time to attend and possibly change the course of their lives and careers by meeting that perfect employer."
PARTNERSHIP WITH ALABAMA POWER
In a strategic partnership, ASU's Office of Career Services has joined forces with Alabama Power Company for the Alabama Power Corporate Takeover, which includes three days of events from March 25-27, 2025, which are aimed at providing students and faculty with valuable engagement opportunities with Alabama Power professionals.
The first two days of this initiative are private events targeted solely for ASU students and faculty so they may have better insight into the company’s career pathways, industry insights, and networking prospects.
The third day of the event (Thursday/March 27) features the Career Fair, which is open to the public.
As part of the Alabama Power Corporate Takeover, Alabama Power will showcase the Alabama Experience (ALEX) at the ASU Career Fair. ALEX is an immersive mobile exhibit designed to showcase educational pathways, career opportunities, and economic growth across Alabama. Attendees will have the chance to engage with industry professionals, explore potential careers, and gain valuable insights into workforce development.
MORE THAN 60 EMPLOYERS AND COUNTING
The Career Fair already features more than 60 employers who have confirmed to be present and are eager to hire both full and part-time employees, as well as interns, for their public and private firms. Dr. Simmons is confident the Fair will attract even more employers by Thursday.
Employers interested in participating are encouraged to contact the ASU Office of Career Services, using the contact information listed below.
DRESS FOR SUCCESS/ON-THE-SPOT HIRES
Simmons stressed that all who attend should dress in business attire since their interactions at the Fair are essentially job interviews in most cases.
She stressed that all participants also should have several copies of their resumes
with them to give to prospective employers.
"Some of the employers may hire individuals on the spot, so we ask that everyone come
prepared and be dressed professionally in business attire. Please have your 30-second
'elevator-pitch' honed and ready (an elevator-pitch explains in 30 seconds who you
are and why you should be selected for the employment position) and with good preparation,
many of our attendees may land their dream jobs or internships by attending our Career
Fair," Simmons stated.
Simmons shared that the slate of potential employers represents a wide variety of local, state, and federal government positions, as well as local and national industries and businesses. By fostering direct access to employers and expanding career possibilities, the Spring 2025 Career Fair serves as a key event for job seekers in the River Region, including ASU students and community residents.
"We truly care about our ASU students and our local residents, and that is why we have organized ASU's Career Fair," Simmons said. "We want to lend a hand's-up to our students and to the public, so they may be fully or part-time employed or be selected for important internships that so many times becomes the foot-in-the-door to future full-time employment. ASU truly wants to help people find employment," Simmons said.
