Dr. Linda J.M. Holloway, associate professor in Instructional Support Programs in the College of Education, is one of four recipients of the 2025 Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) 'Ohana Award. The national award, part of the American Counseling Association, honors counseling professionals who support diversity and advocate for social justice. The award is inspired by the Hawaiian concept of ‘Ohana, or extended family.
"It is an extraordinary honor to be recognized by your colleagues and peers on a national level for the work you do," Holloway said. “This award allows me to be a voice for the voiceless, to speak out and make a difference in the lives of others who are living on the margins in underserved and under-resourced communities. I’m eternally grateful that the work I do is given this outstanding credibility.”
This is Holloway's second recognition from the CSJ, acknowledging her exceptional compassion and commitment to serving others. She stresses that her services are not about winning awards but they are about rolling up her sleeves to serve the community with humility, courage, compassion, and unconditional love.
“This (award), which is given annually to four individuals, is not something I take lightly. There are so many other counselor educators who are fighting for social equality on the local, national, and global levels who are just as deserving of this award,” she added.
Holloway is pleased to be part of a University with a strategic plan that includes Communiversity.
“It is about uplifting our communities and making a difference in a world that needs love and joy. I live by my motto, Always Willing To Serve,” she emphasized.
