ASU Student Named HBCU Communication Fellow by National Association!

A senior graduating this December has been selected by the National Communication Association (NCA) as an HBCU Communication Fellows, an honor granted to only a select group of students across the nation. 

Corevantae Graves, a Communication Studies major at Alabama State University, has been tapped by the NCA for one of its highest academic honors whose objective is getting students from HBCUs into graduate degree programs at majority institutions. As part of the program, Graves left on Nov. 16 on an all-expense paid trip to the NCA's annual conference in New Orleans, La., where he will receive his fellowship and participate in a series of workshops and presentations that focus on communication's studies for HBCU students with an emphasis on graduate-education within the major. 

"This honor came to me quite unexpectedly, and I am exceptionally pleased to be counted among the NCA's cadre of communication's fellows," Graves said. "This comes at an eventful time in my academic studies with my graduation from The Alabama State University taking place in December. 

Graves explained that this will help him better achieve his communication's goals that include a possible public relations career in government and/or politics. 

"I believe a career in government-related employment will allow me to best help my community. I am thankful that I came to ASU because this might not have occurred without the educational prowess of the many skilled faculty members who have taught me at the University, as well as the mentorship and academic advice of Dr. Carlos Morrison, who I feel is one of the University's best professors and an expert in all things related to communications," Graves stated.
