Alabama State University is holding an in-person Fall 2022 Commencement Convocation on Friday, December 2 at the ASU Stadium. Two graduation ceremony sessions will be held on that day, one at 8:45 a.m. and the other at 1:45 p.m.  

Africa Miranda, an actress, host, digital personality, and alumna of ASU will serve as the speaker for both ceremonies.

ABOUT OUR COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER

Africa Miranda is an internationally known lifestyle creative whose brand inspires women everywhere to embrace their inner light. She is an actress, host and digital personality - featured on Netflix, Fox, BET+, and her own eponymous series, The Africa Miranda Show, on Facebook Watch.

Her 2018 book release Step Up, Step Out and Shine teaches readers how to build their own global brands. Africa’s creative journey has been featured in Vanity Fair, Essence, InStyle, and countless media outlets. Dedicated to empowering other women to step intentionally into their purpose - Africa is active via her extensive social media network and brand partnerships, helping a new generation of creators reach their highest potential through workshops, mentoring and community outreach. A digital innovator, Africa has been honored by the Shorty Awards, Create & Cultivate 100, and Okay Africa 100 for her contributions to the industry. 

Africa served as Miss Alabama State University 1997-98 and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, initiated at the Beta Eta Chapter of ASU. She is currently an active member of the Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter in Atlanta, Ga. 

INFORMATION ON ASU'S TWO COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES

There will be two commencement ceremonies held on Dec. 2, which are designated to be held for students by the college in which students obtained their respective degree within. Each candidate for graduation will be issued ten tickets for their guests. 

Please note that ALL guests must have a valid ticket before being admitted to the stadium.  

The two sessions are as follows: 

8:45 a.m. Ceremony
The Harold Lloyd Murphy Graduate School
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
The College of Education
The College of Visual and Performing and Arts
The University College 

1:45 p.m. Ceremony
The Harold Lloyd Murphy Graduate School
The College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
The Percy J. Vaughn, Jr. College of Business Administration
The College of Health Sciences 

Please note that the University will be enforcing its Clear Bag Policy. Also, each person must have their temperature checked prior to entering the venue, which is done to safeguard all who attend from the coronavirus.
