The coordinator for Alabama State University's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Dr. Rolanda Horn, was invited to join and recently graduated from the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, which is presented by the President's Round Table. Horn attended the institute’s annual event that was held in Pittsburgh, Penn. A resident of Montgomery, Ala., Horn is responsible for implementing and maintaining compliance for ASU with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, specifically the Principles of Accreditation, Standard 7.2, the Quality Enhancement Plan.

“I was speechless when I learned that I was accepted into this leadership program,” Horn said. “It was a very intense and emotional experience that helped me to realize the depth and gravity of executive leadership roles in higher education.”

The Lakin Institute seeks African-American participants whose experience and credentials indicate they are ready to attain positions of greater academic leadership. The program offers an opportunity for advanced study of leadership and creates an open dialogue with chancellors, presidents and CEOs.

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT'S ROUND TABLE

The President's Round Table is an affiliate organization of the National Council of Black American Affairs and the American Association of Community Colleges. The Council is designed to provide black community college presidents an operational network, which includes mentoring, internship opportunities and professional development and advancement.

Horn explained that she credits ASU President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., Dr. Kevin A. Rolle, and Dr. Christine C. Thomas for their positive examples and is grateful to them for their support in this endeavor.

“The program is a benefit to me as a higher education professional at ASU, and it has provided me with the acumen needed to demonstrate the qualities of a seasoned leader in higher education who is committed to holistic student success and academic achievement," Horn concluded.
