Alabama State University continues to celebrate Black History Month with its new art exhibition, titled @WeCreateChangeAl, at the Warren Britt Galleries in the Tullibody Fine Arts Center on the ASU campus.  The exhibit, which is sponsored by 21 Dreams Arts & Culture, will run through March 11.

“This exhibition is an extension of the @WeCreateChangeAL collaborative art exhibition that opened in the Kress Building downtown last month,” said artist Nathaniel Allen,  chairperson of ASU’s Department of Visual Arts.

The exhibition features politically charged artwork from  17 exhibiting artists who created more than 40 works of art. The artwork examines several social and political issues impacting Alabama, including mass incarceration, voter suppression and banning of critical race theory.

A special presentation titled “Art x Social Change” is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on March 6  at the galleries.

About the Sponsor

WE CREATE CHANGE Alabama is a group of Montgomery artists who believe they can bring awareness to issues happening in their communities and serve as an example of the work that can be done across the country. Inspired by Montgomery’s history of grassroots organizing, and artists like Nina Simone, who declared “An artist’s duty is to reflect the times.” – local artists have come together to form a coalition and launch the @WeCreateChangeAL arts initiative.
