Community Relations Mission Statement

The mission of the Community Relations Department is to build upon the University’s tradition and commitment to develop and maintain programs consistent with the University’s mission statement that are responsive to the needs of individual citizens, public groups, and agencies in the City of Montgomery and surrounding areas. The University programs should build and maintain reciprocal relationships with entities in the community and therefore increase engagement opportunities with the community by addressing their interests and needs.

CommUniversity

ASU has a proud history of community engagement. From students to employees, the University family has a strong record of community involvement and outreach. Our major community service initiatives include:

ASU Read and Rise - Celebrates and commemorates ASU’s legacy and Founders by engaging students, faculty, staff and administration to read to students in the Montgomery Area Elementary Schools. Volunteer readers will emphasize why reading is important in their lives and what their favorite books of inspiration were when they were kids.

Interfaith Council - Community Engagement initiative aimed at developing partnerships for the benefit of our students and campus community. It is gathering of Interfaith leaders and the University leadership to initiate a dialogue about how to communicate effectively with people of all religious faiths, and understand the correlation between spirituality and student success.

ASUletide Community Celebration – Hornet Nation provides a Christmas dinner, including a turkey, and gifts for more than 100 Montgomery Area children and senior citizens.

We value our partners. We believe in building strong relationships that have resulted in countless opportunities for the University and for our students, including sponsorships, scholarships, internships and job placements.
