The Alabama State University Division of Institutional Advancement developed the 50 Under 50 alumni award to engage, re-engage, educate, honor and develop the next generation of advocates, donors and ambassadors for ASU. As ambassadors of the University the class members may be called on throughout the year to serve as speakers, panelists, advisory committee members and to participate in other unique opportunities throughout the University. The 2023 50 Under 50 class members will be officially honored and recognized at the 50 Under 50 Awards Celebration.

What makes someone a good candidate for 50 Under 50?
Our Alums are the best and brightest. They are all different, but they are all high achievers. They include business people, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, athletes, community organizers, politicians, teacher and inventors. They give back to the community and elevate their communities through their work, whether it be through their careers or volunteer work. They inspire us through everything they do. People who fit these descriptions and are willing to make a commitment to ASU make good candidates.

How are the Top 50 selected?

We are certain to receive hundreds of nominations for 50 Under 50. From those nominations, our team will compile a list of all the nominations. The 50 Under 50 Selection Committee will review the nominations.  The Committee will be made up of members of 50 Under 50. The Committee will carefully review the nominations, interview candidates and debate the merits of the candidates, weighing their achievements and balancing the class across sectors of achievement until they determine the 50 Under 50 Class of 2023.

What makes a nomination stand out?
Our committee looks for nominees who have notable achievements in their particular fields, which includes community work; so try to be as specific as possible when you are filling out the nomination or nominee completion form. Measurable achievements should be included and could include achievements such as increasing profits, awards from professional associations or other groups, or completion of a project. We know that many achievements aren't easily quantified or previously acknowledged, so give us as many details as you can. The judges will also look for community and volunteer involvement that speaks to the nominee's willingness to help others, as well as their commitment and contribution. Again, be as specific as possible.

When will the nominees find out if they have been selected as members of the 50 Under 50 Class of 2023?

What happens if I have been selected?
Congratulations! You will be contacted by Institutional Advancement.
