Alabama State University's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering a training program to assist entrepreneurs in the Montgomery area and River Region. The Zoom class, which begins on August 1, features a GoDaddy component and focuses on how participants can utilize digital marketing to advance their businesses.

Andrea Rogers Mosley, the executive director of the University's SBDC, shared that the center’s purpose is to help create new small businesses in local communities and to enhance those already in existence. All of the SBDC's courses and the training that is listed below is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending should pre-register with the SBDC office at https://asbdc.ecenterdirect.com/events/10067

Mosley explained that the six-week virtual technical assistance program equips entrepreneurs with training, tools, and a network of similar businesses to help them establish and improve an effective digital presence. She noted that past empower cohort alumni are not eligible to enroll.

Classes begin on August 1 and continue through September 5 and will take place on Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30, p.m. via Zoom.

"The digital marketing course has the SBDC partnering with GoDaddy to provide a premium digital marketing curriculum, expert support, and services to business owners in Alabama," Mosley said. "The topics that it covers will include evaluating your brand, designing a great website, creating your site content, creating an e-commerce and social media presence, and website building technical assistance."

Participation in the entire six-week course is mandatory to receive the free web hosting from GoDaddy.

Mosley emphasized that all of those participating must show proof of their company's existence with such items as a business license, certificate of existence, LLC paperwork or in other official ways. Enrolling in the course requires pre-registration and completing an entrepreneur survey.

"This course will provide those enrolled in it with the resources to create the website they have always wanted allowing them to add their own content with confidence. It also offers two years of free web hosting, a domain name, business email and online technical support," stated Mosley. "Businesses must have already been launched as a new or existing business and must be headquartered in Alabama in order to participate in the program."
