By Kenneth Mullinax/ASUAlabama State University's Board of Trustees (BOT) voted to extend the contract of ASU's President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., for a period of five years during the Board’s meeting held on February 3.
Board President, Brenda Brown Dillard, explained that Dr. Ross’s contract was extended because the Trustees wanted to maintain the stability and success that has marked the President’s tenure of more than five years."We are very pleased at his performance and the success he has brought to the campus," Dillard said by phone. "He is a visionary leader who has accomplished a multitude of positive things for ASU that includes having its SACSCOC accreditation approved with no recommendations, reducing the institution's debt, increasing the school's academic foundation with new degrees being offered for its students -- such as the new Masters of Business Administration and a recently proposed program for a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering degree -- and his famous outreach that he extends to local residents and communities, which he calls 'CommUniversity,’ that recently included disaster relief efforts to Selma and the work done during the COVID-19 Pandemic."
Dillard said all in all, the Board believes that Ross is a visionary leader who has continued to move the University forward through the execution of transformative goals, with a focus on student success.
ROSS SAYS BEING ASU’S CEO IS MORE THAN A JOB
Ross explains that his working at ASU is more than a job; it is a way of life. Additionally, he acknowledges that he is looking forward to fulfilling the goals and objectives of the University’s Focus 2030 Strategic Plan.
"I am both thankful and blessed to be able to continue the work that all of us here have begun - from the Board of Trustees and my Leadership Team, to the faculty, staff and administrators, and with the important input and active participation of our students,” Ross said. “The contract extension is merely a confirmation of the progress we have all made by working together during the last five years; however, the best is yet to come!"
