Dr. Manoj K. Mishra, founding director of Alabama State University’s Cancer Biology Research and Training (CBRT) program, has received the distinction of Fellow of the Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy (FABAP). The Executive Council of the Association elected him to be a fellow in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the field of Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences.
The fellow will be conferred during the APAB’s 16th annual Convention and International Conference, December 16-18, where Mishra will give a presentation on CBRT cancer research at ASU. The conference will be held at Vellore Institute of Technology (Deemed to be University), Vellore, Tamilnadu, India.
As a fellow, Mishra has the privilege of using the FABAP title after his name.
“This award means a lot to me because it is satisfying to see people notice the quality work we are doing on our campus in cancer biology. All of this continues to allow ASU to be present and acknowledged on the global stage of cancer research and education,” Mishra said. “This award further recognizes the research work done by faculty and students at CBRT, ASU.”
Mishra’s research interests have focused on dietary compounds in controlling prostate cancer development and progression, the role of immune cells in prostate cancer, and polymeric scaffolds in bone tissue regeneration. His research at ASU has received several awards.
In addition to serving as CBRT director, Mishra is the Director of the Freshman Biology Program at ASU, as well as a professor of biology. He holds an adjunct professor position in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology with the Department of Pathology School of Medicine at the University of Alabama.
