Students at Alabama State University continue to excel upon graduating with employment offers from many various prestigious companies nationwide and globally. This fact was evidenced recently by two students in the Master of Accountancy in Data Analytics (MADA) program in ASU's Percy J. Vaughn College of Business Administration (COBA).
MADA students Teriyana McCray and Jelaney McGowan were offered and accepted full-time jobs upon the completion of their course of studies in July with the world-renowned Big-Four accounting and finance firm, KPMG. Both students are part of the cadre of four University students who earlier in the year were recipients of KPMG's MADA Scholarship Program, which gave them a full scholarship that pays for their COBA tuition, fees and books, a laptop and $5,000 in stipends. A third member of their cohort, Raegan Ballinger, received KPMG's first job offer just a few months ago.
COBA's dean, Dr. Kamal Hingorani, explained that these are exciting times for COBA.
"The Master of Accountancy program at Alabama State's COBA was revamped earlier with three data analytics courses, thanks to the leadership and approval of ASU President Quinton T. Ross, Jr. and ASU Provost Carl Pettis," Hingorani said. "We enrolled our four KPMG scholars (Raegan Ballinger, Teriyana McCray, Jelaney McGowan and Traylan Packer) into the program during fall of 2022, and we are so proud of all of them and thankful to KPMG for its recognition of their academic scholarship and for its employment support with three of them, so far, being offered full-time positions with one of the world's foremost accounting firms."
Dean Hingorani explained that COBA intends to enroll two additional KPMG scholars in the 2023 spring semester and three during the summer of 2023 academic schedule.
"One of the critical success factors for a college of business is the placement of its students, and our MADA program has worked wonders for our Alabama State University business scholars. I would be remiss if I did not note just how appreciative we are of the dedicated four-member team from KPMG that supports our College and its student-scholars, which makes a great and positive impact for the University, its COBA students and for the greater HBCU community of students," added the Dean.
