Marion 9 academic merit scholarships

The Marion 9 Academic Merit Scholarships (Automatic- Freshmen)- (renewed annually, for eight semesters, as long as the recipient maintains the minimum requirements)

 

About the Marion 9-  The Marion 9 were a group of 9 freed slaves who created the Lincoln Normal School in Marion, Alabama, in 1867.  With $500 and a dream, these nine brave men created a school to provide educational opportunities for African American children.  The Lincoln Normal School would eventually become Alabama State University.  Because of their vision and investment, The Marion 9 are considered the founders of ASU.  The Marion 9 Scholarships were created to commemorate the memory and sacrifice of those nine individuals.  

In-State Only

M-9 Freedom Scholarship-$5,000-  This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

M-9 Legacy Scholarship- $3,500- This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

M-9 1867 Scholarship-$1,500- This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

M-9 Lincoln Normal Scholarship- $1,000- This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

Out-of-State

M-9 Heritage Scholarship $12,000- Students who reside outside the State of Alabama.  This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

M-9 Dreamer’s Scholarship $10,000- Students who reside outside the State of Alabama. This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

The Promise Scholarship $8,328- Students who reside outside the State of Alabama and have a minimum GPA of 2.75  can be considered for this award.  This scholarship will be applied to the out-of-State portion of the student’s tuition.



The Marion 9 Academic Merit Scholarships (Automatic-Transfer (minimum 24 college-level transferable hours))- (renewed annually, for six semesters, as long as the recipient maintains the minimum requirements)

In-State Only

M-9 Marion Strong Scholarship-$2,500-  This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

M-9 Perseverance Scholarship- $1,000-  This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

Out-of-State

M-9 Founders Scholarship $10,828-Transfer students who reside outside the State of Alabama.  This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

M-9 Marion to Montgomery Scholarship $9,328- Transfer students who reside outside the State of Alabama.  This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, required fees, and on-campus room and board.

The Promise Scholarship $8,328- Students who reside outside the State of.  This scholarship will be applied to the out-of-State portion of the student’s tuition.

 

*If awarded:  

  1. Students must have a FAFSA on file (International students are excluded)
  2. Students must be enrolled full-time (Exceptions given to graduating seniors-or special circumstances- scholarship can be adjusted based on the number of enrolled credit hours)
  3. Scholarships are renewed annually based on the following: 
  4.  The student meets the minimum scholarship cumulative GPA requirement at the end of the academic year.  
  5. Students must also complete at least 24 semester hours by the end of the academic term.marion nine
