Academic Departments in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at ASU

Music

Learn the fundamentals of music theory, creation and performance in a program accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Work with accomplished musicians as you master your chosen instrument and study music theory and history in challenging visual and performing arts classes.

Theatre Arts

Our theatre and dance program helps us stand out from other visual and performing arts colleges around the country for its flexibility, impressive alumni and accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). Our Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance is the first in the region and one of only two such programs housed at an HBCU in the nation. Practice your craft in annual festivals and capstone projects so you’ll be ready to join a company, become a professional actor or dancer, or study your craft at the graduate level.

Visual Arts

As a Visual and Performing Arts major in the visual arts department, you’ll take courses in ceramics, photography and graphic design in a program accredited by the National Association of School of Art and Design (NASAD). You’ll have exclusive access to labs and studios dedicated to drawing, sculpture and painting where you can collaborate with others and perfect your craft.
